Time Span: Takes place directly after Paper Hearts. If you've seen up to
then, you'll be okay.
Summary: After a long case, all Scully wants is to comfort Mulder, and
does so by making him dance with her. As it turns out, it was the best
thing next to proposing that she could have done.
Disclaimer: Mulder and Scully do not belong to me, they belong to CC,
1013, and FOX. Anti- shippers, I think you know me well enough if
you've read my past work to know that I write nothing *but* MSR, so I
wouldn't read this if I were you.
Author's Note: This story is hear-by dedicated to the late singer,
Selena, who's song I'm using.
I've always felt her death a horrible tragedy, and am happy to dedicate
this to her.
Dreaming Of You
Sitting at home, Dana realized leaving Mulder in the office may not
have been the best of ideas. After the emotional rollercoaster he had
just been on, the depression he could fall into just sitting by himself at
home could cause major damage. It was then that she wondered why
she cared so much more about how *he* was feeling than how she was
feeling. This case had burnt her out too, why was she so wrapped up
in how it had affected him? Boy was that a stupid question. She
learned long ago that if you try to define love to understand it, it will only
get more complicated. She cared about him first and foremost because
she was in love with him, and it was as simple as that.
Before, she hadn't thought it possible for anyone to give themself
completely to someone else. Until she met Fox Mulder, that is. With all
the heartache, she found it easier to just go along with what kept him
alive instead of contradicting him, and making him go it alone.
That was far too dangerous, for even though Mulder was a big boy, he
most certainly could not take care of himself! Whenever he tried, she
always ended up seeing him with an I.V. Being his partner was feeling
more and more like being his mother. Though, she reminded herself that
mothers do not feel the way about their sons the way that she felt about
Mulder!
So, the question remained, what to do about it. What could she
do to take his mind off the case, and kind of reassure him that he's not
alone in his search. Well, she thought to herself. One thing you could do
that would certainly take his mind off the case would be to admit to him
how you feel. It's getting too hard to keep that shield up anyway. Why
not give it a shot? Why not? Because it scared her to death to think of
what could happen if she did.
Losing him would kill her. Then she thought what could happen if she
didn't, and decided that leaving him in the dark on this was the worse of
the two. She knew just how to tell him too.
Fox was out of it driving home. In a daze, he didn't notice his cell
phone ringing until the third ring. "Mulder." He answered.
"Mulder, it's me."
"Scully? I thought you went home."
"I did. I was thinking, and I want you to come over, okay?"
"Well I-"
"Great, see you in a couple of minutes." She said, cutting him off
before he could protest.
When he heard the line go dead, he knew there was no saying
no to her now. He was a little worried by how she rushed. Was she in
trouble? Now his heart was beating faster than his circulation could
keep up with. No, he reassured himself. She didn't sound like she was
in trouble. Still, a part of him was afraid.
Hearing a somewhat loud knock on her door, she jumped to get it.
He stood in the frame with a mixed expression on his face. He looked
afraid and tired at the same time. A look that seemed very Mulderesque
to her.
"Are you okay, Scully? You didn't say much on the phone."
"Yeah, I'm fine, I just wanted to ask you something. I'm sorry if I
scared you." She motioned for him to come in, and he made his way to
her couch, and eased himself down. She followed him, and sat facing
him. "Mulder, I know how much this case meant to you, and how much it
took out of you. I didn't want you to go home and sulk over this, because
it wasn't her, and deep down, I think you know that. There's something
I've been wanting to tell you for a long time, but couldn't find the words,
so I'm going to borrow them. Would you dance with me?"
This caught his attention. "Dance? Dana, you know I'm not very
good at that."
"Please? Just one slow dance. There's a song that will explain
exactly what I'm trying to say, and I'd like it very much if you would
dance with me."
Oh no. He did it, he looked in her eyes. Whenever he looked in
her eyes, there was no use. He was hers. Those deep seas of blue
had a power over him that he would normally say was extraterrestrial, if
he didn't know that he was simply in love with her. Giving a small smile,
and a little nod, he agreed.
A huge smile spread across her face, and she jogged over to
push the play button. She had already put in her Selena CD, knowing
that Mulder would say yes. She saw what she needed to in his eyes.
She saw the love that she was sure reflected in her own eyes. Dana
walked back over to him, and pulled him up by the hands. A soft melody
started playing, and they fell into place. His hands on her waist, and her
arms around his neck.
Late at night when all the world is sleeping,
I stay up and think of you.
And I wish on a star
That somewhere you are thinking of me too.
Cause I'm dreaming of you tonight.
Till tommorow, I'll be holding you tight.
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be,?
Than here in my room, dreaming about you and me.
Fox listened carefully, and hearing what reflected in his soul, his
arms tightened around
Dana, and slid up a little on her back. Her head was resting in the hollow
of his neck, against his shoulder. She silently breathed in the musk
wonderful scent that she could only describe as
Mulder. They swayed back and forth, and listened to the words that
spoke for both of them.
Wonder if you ever see me,
And I wonder if you know I'm there.
If you looked in my eyes,
Would you see what's inside?
Would you even care?
Well that part was already taken care of. Sometimes it took a
while to realize that they weren't the only one working a case. It was
occasionally hard to remember that there was two of them. But
whenever they would look into each other's eyes, they could always
see what's inside, and always cared. With all their hearts and souls,
they cared.
I just want to hold you close, but so far,
All I have are dreams of you.
So I wait for the day,
And the courage to say
How much I love you.
I'll be dreaming of you tonight.
Till tommorow, I'll be holding you tight.
And there's nowhere in the world, I'd rather be.
Than here in my room, dreaming about you and me.
{Sound of a bridge collapsing} Ahh ahh, I can't stop dreaming of you.
I can't stop dreaming.
I can't stop dreaming of you.
Late at night when all the world is sleeping,
I stay up and think of you.
And I still can't believe,
That you came up to me and said,
I love you. I love you too.
Now I'm dreaming with you tonight.
Till tommorow, and for all of my life!
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be.
Than here in my room,
Dreaming with you, endlessly.
As the song faded, they pulled apart a little, and stared deeply
into each other's eyes.
Words were not needed, because their eyes spoke louder than any
words ever could. They both admitted how much they loved each other,
and how completely they had welded their souls into one. Fox was no
longer bothered about the material hearts, for his own heart was soaring
beyond the realms of possibility.
Carefully, he cupped her cheeks with his palms, and drew her
face to his slowly. Their lips met softly, and the kiss gradually deepened
into how much love they were feeling at that moment. How whole they
both felt once two perfect halves had finally found each other. Mind,
heart, body and soul. "Dana," he said finally with a small smile. "No more
dreams, okay?"
She laughed, understanding the double meaning of what he said.
One, he didn't want any more dreams that would lead him on a goose
chase. And two, no more
*dreams* of each other. Dreams wouldn't be needed, for they would be
together for as long as they live.
The End!
Alright, so this was a little short, but it was my first piece with
music involved, and I hope everyone agrees that this was a nice song to
go along with Paper Hearts. Please send all comments to
