Fowley getting shot...heh

Summary: Scully sees Mulder in the hospital room visiting Fowley and she
stands in the doorway
listening to the conversation. This would be when all the emotions she'd
held inside burst out
and she forgets about keeping her professional face.
Disclaimer: I don't own Mulder or Scully and certainly not that
Fowley...thing<shudders>
They all belong to CC, 1013 and FOX.
Author's Note: I got the idea to write this after reading some posts to
the BB, it sounded the
perfect opportunity to let Scully have a tantrum without worrying about
what everyone thought.
She does it with class of course but it's more effective that way<g>
For You to be Happy
Scully took a deep breath walking into the hospital. Skinner
wanted her to find Mulder
and bring him back to the office for a meeting. A knot grew in her
stomach and her face looked
pale, her normally bright blue eyes,grey as if she might cry. This was
stupid, she thought to
herself. Why should she feel bad if Mulder was visiting Diana in the
hospital? The woman was
shot...he used to be her parter....of course he'd visit. It was all very
logical...but it made
her feel miserable. It was selfish to think like this. Mulder couldn't
make his world revolve
around her, there were other things in his life. But she wanted to be
the center of it.
She swallowed softly as she approached the hallway that Diana's
room was in. She walked
more slowly now, her heart beating fast, afraid of what she might see.
She heard Mulder's voice
as she walked closer and she held her breath standing in the doorway
quietly. She should say
something...she should let him know she was there....but he was talking
and she didn't want to
interrupt him. Diana was laying there, her eyes closed, but she smiled
every now and then so
Scully knew she was awake.
"I know you'll come out of this...just as always, nothing could
keep you down."
Mulder's voice was so soft, her heart ached knowing he wasn't
speaking to her. Mulder
smiled and squeezed Diana's hand gently. His back was to Scully but she
knew his eyes must be
watering...she saw flashes of when she was in Diana's position, of how
Mulder's face looked then,
and it broke her heart.
"I know you came here hoping we could start over and I have to
tell you, I love..."
Scully closed her eyes for a brief moment as her stomach cringed,
she couldn't stand here
any longer. When she opened her eyes a second later Mulder was still
talking but she only caught
the first letter of Diana's name, "D.." Before she bit her lower lip,
whimpering a little and
turned out walking quickly down the hall as tears streamed down her face.
Mulder heard someone walk from the room and his head snapped
around quick enough to see
a flash of auburn hair and the bottom of her trench coat. He hopped to
his feet looking down at
Diana and said quickly, "I'm sorry, excuse me." He jogged out the door
and down the hall until he
spotted Scully and ran until he caught up to her. Right away he saw the
tears and he set a hand
on her back. "Scully....what's wrong?"
She stood still and looked up at him, her lips pursed sadly in a
small smile, tears still
sliding down her cheeks and she shook her head unable to speak for a
minute then she cleared her
throat and wiped her eyes. "It's.....nothing. How's Agent Fowley?"
He eyed her suspiciously and spoke softly and slowly. "She's
alright now, her condition is
stable and she should recover without any permanent damage...Are you sure
you're ok?"
She was biting her lower lip again, more tears threatening to
fall and she nodded slowly
then looked away. "Skinner..uh, wanted to see you in a meeting."
He still watched her carefully and nodded. "Okay."
With that she started walking again until she got out the
hospital door and before she could
get down the steps, his strong hand grabbed her upper arm. She closed
her eyes, took a deep
breath and waited for him to say something. He didn't so she had to look
back at him and her
eyes questioned him as best they could, clouded with tears. He sat
slowly on the top step and
pulled her down with him. She looked straight ahead unable to meet his
eyes and tried to regain
her composure. This failed completely when he wrapped his arms around
her pulling her close,
forcing her to lean on him. He kissed the side of her head then rested
his chin atop it and
whispered, "Please tell me what's wrong."
She closed her eyes and cried softly against his chest, her small
body shaking gently with
her tears. He squeezed her gently and she calmed enough to speak, though
her voice was soft and
shaky. "Mulder...In the hallway of your apartment building...and
everything after that...made
me come to face how I feel about you. I really did want to kiss you
then." She nodded against
his chest and let out a slow breath. "I have to tell you...I love you
more than my life. I
would go to the ends of the world and back for you...do anything. But
what I want most...is
for you to be happy. Even if I'm not the one who makes you happy...if
it's Diana or whoever...
just for you to be happy..." She closed her eyes again and cried
silently.
His hazel eyes clouded over with tears of his own and he was
speechless, stroking her hair
softly and holding her close to him. Finally he whispered, "Dana...I
don't know what you heard
in the hospital room...but I was telling her that she and I could never
be....because I am in
love with you. I love you so deeply and I always will...please believe
that. If you believe
nothing else in your entire life...please believe that."
Hearing his words she wrapped her arms around him tightly and
pressed her cheek to his
chest feeling his heart beat. He held her to tightly and closed his eyes
for a moment, knowing
what true heaven, happiness and love felt like all at once. When the
both let go he held her
face in his hands and kissed her deeply, showing her how much he loved
her and she kissed him
back the same, her tears drying and her heart soaring high. After a few
long moments they
broke the kiss gently and slowly stood. Hand in hand they walked to her
car and started for
the office. And this was all it took for them both to be happy.
