From: K@tie at DKScully@juno.com Category: MSR/Humor Date: May 2nd 1997 Summary: Mulder drags Scully to his high school reunion to show his old friends who's the loser now. ;*) Disclaimer: Mulder and Scully aren't mine. They belong to CC,1013,and FOX. Most people at the reunion are mine, however, Chris Lorenzo&Rita Lance belong to the folks over at the USA Network. The song "I'm a Believer" belongs to Neil Diamond, but I've never heard him sing it, so I'll say that it also belongs to someone that I have heard and love, Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees ;*)Besides, he's the one singing it in my story, k? Author's Note: When I was little<I know, I'm only 13, I *am* little> I used to watch the Monkees all the time, and I loved Mickey. He was just so wonderfully crazy, cute, and reminded me of myself<G> Anyway, in honor of VH1 bringing them back Monday-Thursday at 10:00P.M., I'm doing a fan fic dedicated to him, and the rest of the Monkees. I'm A Believer Mulder reread the invitation for the millionth time before Scully interrupted his thoughts. "Mulder? What are you reading?" He looked up quickly. "Huh? Oh, this is just an invitation to my high school reunion." She nodded. "Are you going?" "Well...." He said in a tone that she understood all too well. "Oh, Mulder, do I have to go?" "Well, it would mean a lot to me if you were there. I wasn't exactly popular in highschool, and..." "Why, Fox William Mulder, are you saying that you want to drag me to some highschool reunion to show all the other people you aren't the loser they thought you were?" "Hey, who ever said anything about-" "I'd be honored", she interrupted him. "What?" He asked incredulously. "I said I'd be honored. I'm flattered that you think so highly of me." He smiled. When they walked in the doors to Mulder's old high school, he made sure Scully's arm was entangled in his own. When he entered with the auburn haired beauty, everyone turned to look. Mulder smiled brightly, and thought to himself<That's right. Fox Mulder's got an Earth angel, and you don't.> From out of the crowd sprung Fat Lenny Fairchild. "Hey Foxy, I see you've got quite a number with you." "Watch your manners Lenny, Dana is a lady." "Oh, of course, of course." He bent in near Dana. "So how much is he payin ya?" Scully looked at him like she didn't understand what he had just said, when in reality, she didn't *want* to hear what he just said. Mulder grabbed her hand, and pulled her away into the crowd. When they were a safe distance away, she asked, "What was that all about?" "Never mind. Lenny was always making fun of me for the women I dated. He thought I had to pay somebody to go out with me, when in reality, it was he that couldn't get a date." "I'll believe that." She said, glancing over her shoulder, seeing Lenny, his huge belly hanging over his belt. She felt the urge to vomit, so she looked back to Mulder. They drifted along the sea of people in the crowded gymnasium until they found the punch bowl. Mulder poured Scully a glass, and then one for himself. As if the Lenny experience wasn't enough, Pimples Peter Johnson came up to them. He was a skinny kid back in the old days, and his face looked like a connect-the-dots game. Amazingly, he hadn't changed except for a deeper voice and thinning hair that made his still skinny body, and pimple covered face more awkward than ever. Mulder sighed and turned when Peter tapped him on the back. As he turned around, he changed his expression, but not before Dana saw, and started giggling, which she stopped with a hand over her mouth. "Pim-Peter." He caught himself. "How have you been?" Peter looked at him carefully through his inch thick glasses. "Oh, I'm fine, how have you been, Fox?" "Fine, fine. Meet my-" "Fiance. My name is Dana Scully." She extended her hand for Peter to shake it. He took it, very surprised, and she almost laughed at the look on his blemish covered face. The look Mulder gave her was even wilder. When Peter left, she explained, "Well...everyone's being so mean to you. Besides, what are high school reunions for anyway? To make the people who made fun of you feel their life is nothing in comparison to yours now." He looked at her surprised. "Why Scully, I never saw this side of you before." "And?" She asked smiling, with raised eyebrows. "I like it." He said, returning the smile. For a moment, Mulder looked away to see if there was anyone else here that he would be able to avoid. During his search, he found one of his good friends, Chris Lorenzo. Chris saw him too, and made his way over. "Fox Mulder, how the hell are you?" Chris asked, giving Mulder a manly hug, and slapping him on the back. "I'm good, great in fact." "Yeah, I see that. Who's the lady?" "This is Dana Scully, my...fiance." He said, remembering their agreement, and smiling. "It's nice to meet you, Dana." Chris said, taking her hand, and kissing it. Scully smiled, blushed, and replied, "The pleasure is all mine." "So Chris, how are you doing?" "Oh, I'm great, man. I'm married now, you know?" "Really? Who's the lucky lady?" "Her name is Rita Lance, and she's wonderful. She's also here somewhere, I'll have to introduce you." Mulder nodded, sipping his punch. "You know it's funny, Rita and I are also partners." "Really? I thought the department frowned on that." "Well, Rita and I are the best homicide team in Palm Beach, and they just couldn't let us go." He said smiling. Mulder thought to himself how lucky they were. If Scully and he threatened to quit if they couldn't be together, the Bureau would laugh in their faces, and hold the door. A small beautiful brown haired woman stepped out from behind Chris. "Rita." He said happily. "Meet my good friend Fox Mulder, and his fiance, Dana Scully." "Hello." Rita said, extending her hand to Mulder and then Scully. "Rita, Fox and Dana are also partners." "Really? That's wonderful. Partners make the best friends and spouses." "Aww, Sam, you're too good to me." Chris said. Mulder and Scully looked at each other, and then Chris and Rita. "See, we call each other Sam after our golfing hero, Slammin Sammy Snead." Scully mouthed the word "oh", and nodded with a smile. "Well, look, it was nice seeing you again. We'll let you go." Mulder smiled, nodded, and said," Call me some time. Maybe we can all get togther." "That'd be great." Chris said. "I like Chris and Rita." She said. "Yeah, he was my best friend in high school. Always the lady's man, and Rita seems very nice too." She smiled and nodded. There had been a D.J. playing oldies, when all of a sudden, a familiar tune floated through the stuffy air. Both Mulder and Scully leaned back against the punch table, and listened. I thought love was only true in fairy tales. And for someone else, but not for me. Love was out to get me. That's the way it seemed. Disapointment haunted all my dreams. Now she knew who it was. This was Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees. The song was called... Then I saw her face. Now I'm a believer. Not a trace... of doubt in my mind. I'm in love. I'm a believer, I couldn't leave her, if I tried It was called "I'm a Believer." How appropriate, she thought. I thought love was more or less a givin' thing. The more I gave, the less I got. What's the use in tryin? All you get is pain. When I needed sunshine I got rain. Then I saw her face. Now I'm a believer. Not a trace... of doubt in my mind. I'm in love. I'm a believer, I couldn't leave her, if I tried. Mulder listened to this song, and couldn't help thinking that it brought more things into perspective than this whole entire reunion. Love hadn't exactly been his specialty, at least not until college. Then there was Phoebe, but now that he thought about it, she only hurt him, and overall used him. But the moment he saw Dana's face, he became a true believer in love. Ah, love was out to get me. That's the way it seemed. Disappointment haunted all my dreams. Then I saw her face. Now I'm a believer. Not a trace... of dout on my mind. I'm in love. I'm a believer, I couldn't leave her, if I tried. The song faded, and he turned to look at Scully. She stared back at him with the same intensity burning in her blue eyes. What the hell, she thought. She slowly stood on her tiptoes, and kissed him. First softly, but then after seeing how perfect it felt, the kiss deepened. By now everyone was watching, either in awe, jealousy, or just because they were the sweetest couple in the school. As they were walking out to the car, Mulder grabbed her arm, and she stopped to see what was the matter. "We sure showed them, didn't we?" She asked with a devilish grin. "Yes we did, dragon lady." He joked. "Dana?" The use of her first name scared her a little. "Hmmm?" "Well, back in there, when we kissed..." "I know, I felt it too." She said smiling up at him. "So where do we go from here?" "It doesn't matter to me as long as we go together." She said, his arm around her waist, and her head tucked gently near his shoulder. "Thank you." He said. "For what?" "For showing me how to believe in love." The End! Alright, folks, that was my take on Mulder's highschool reunion<G>. Please tell me what you think at DKScully@Juno.com Thanx for reading!
