Summary: After a bad nightmare, Mulder goes to Scully for moral
support.
Disclaimer: Mulder, Scully, and Samantha aren't mine, they belong to CC,
1013, and FOX.
Author's Note: After racking my brain for a good writing topic, I've
decided to go simple, and use
a basic idea that's been around forever, nightmares. This story is
dedicated to my good friend
Shari, who is in love. Lucky you! Hope y'all enjoy and tell me what you
think!
Sweet Dreams
A pounding filled his ears. He guessed it was his heartbeat
whamming louder and
louder as his whole being was filled with fear. From behind a shadow
covered him, and he spun
in fright to face this form. He soon found that this shadow was coming
from above him, as he
watched his sister being taken into a bright light. Her small body
elevated, and then was pulled to the light in horror. She called for
him over and over for help, but
his body was still. He was paralyzed. He screamed for her, reached
out
for her, but he couldn't
move. Tears streamed down his now dark hazel eyes as the scene
changed
to another setting that
he remembered all too well.
He heard screams again, but they weren't Sam's. He squinted
toward the screams, and all of a sudden, it was clear. Scully was being
lifted into the light.
She also was crying out for him, and this time he found that he could
run. His legs were pumping
faster and faster. Just as he got there, and reached for her, she
disappeared into the night sky.
He fell to his knees sobbing. In the next second, he sat up on his couch
with a start. He wiped the cold sweat off
his face, and breathed deeply as his heart began to slow. This was the
seventh time this week
that he had that nightmare, and he couldn't stand it any longer.
An impatient beating woke Dana from her slumber as she realized
someone was at her
door. She slid like a cat from her bed, and carefully picked up her gun
as she made her way to the door. "Who is it?"
"It's me."
She peered through the peek hole, and saw that it was indeed a
restless Mulder. She
sighed as the tension left her, and set her gun down. After unlocking
the door, she opened it to
find a nervous Mulder starring back at her. "Are you okay, Mulder?" She
asked, fear spreading
through her stomach.
"I'm fine, can I come in?"
She looked at him oddly, but moved away, and went to put a pot
of
coffee on. He
closed the door behind him, and locked it. Mulder watched her back for a
moment, and then
went to sit on her couch. After the machine clicked, she turned to join
him.
As she sat down, she looked him over, deciding if he was really
okay. "What's up?"
He suddenly felt the need to know that she was real, and hadn't
left him after all. Mulder
almost lunged forward, and embraced her tightly.
Dana's eyes went wide in surprise as her arms hung in mid air
about his waist for a
moment. After getting over the initial shock, she held him, and
comforted him. He gave her an extra hard squeeze before sitting back
with tears threatening to flow at
any given minute. She
cupped her hand on his cheek. "Mulder? What's wrong?"
For a second he looked at her longingly, then looked away long
enough to regain his composure. "For about a week, I've been having
these dreams, nightmares,
really. I see Sam. I can't get to her. She's screaming, but I can't
move." He swallowed
hard, and then continued.
"But I've always had those dreams. Now, it's not just Sam....it's you
too." He looked deeply into her eyes, searching for a reaction.
"Mulder, we've talked about this. You can't keep blaming
yourself. It wasn't your fault. I'm here now, and I don't plan to leave
anytime soon." She held his
hand, and he squeezed it, somewhat reassured, and then nodded.
"Come
here," she said with her arms
spread wide. He
willingly fell into her embrace, and held onto her with a force he'd
never felt before. They gently rocked back and forth as she dug her
chin
into that place in his neck
that she knew would sooth him, and she whispered in his ear, "It's okay,
I'm here," over and over
until he settled. A sudden wave of sleepiness came over him.
"Oh, Scully, I'm so tired." He whispered in her ear. She
nodded, and laid him down on her couch. She stood, but he moaned.
"Please. Stay." She looked at
him peacefully, and whispered, "Okay." He turned on his side, and she
nestled in
as he slipped his arms
around her waist like a teddy bear, holding her to him. With his face
burried in her hair, he fell asleep to sweet dreams.
The End!
