This is my first effort at writting fan-fic, so if something is wrong
please understand.
Disclaimer: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, The X-Files and Quequag do not
belong to me (unfourtunately). They belong to CC, who is the god of
all television. *Warning* This is before Quequag(is that how you
spell it?) has departed our world. So if there are any of you who find
him annoying please turn back now. Oh, and this is also a M/S romance
piece so all you anti-relationshippers turn back now. If you are still
here, please enjoy.
The Tape
It was raining outside and she could hear the faint sound of
the droplets falling on the window pane. Dana Scully wrapped the afgan
tighter, as though she were scared that the cold outside would
suddenly flow in. Quequag sat comfortably in her lap sleeping. He
stirred suddenly and gave a big yawn for such a tiny animal.
"You seem to have slept well." she told the little furball. He
sat up and looked at her blankly. He then jumped off her lap and
headed towards the kitchen. She sat waiting for what was to come. Then
she heard it. The muffled whine from the direction of the kitchen. She
definetly did not want to get up but her dog had to be fed, and he
would not shut-up until she had done so. She got up on her wobbley
legs and let the afgan fall to a heap on the sofa. She padded over to
the kitchen and fed the tiny beast.
It was one of those rare weekends when she didn't have to do
any paperwork so she was left with nothing to do. She walked over to
the cabinet under her TV and opened the wood doors. There were a few
videos there, most taped off TV and the others bought. Nearly all of
them were romances or comedies. Not quite what you'd find in Mulder's
video library, and she snickered to herself. She didn't feel in the
mood for anything like that this day so she began to shuffle the
videos around to see what selection she had. Then something caught her
eye at the very back. She pulled it out and began to remeber to that
day when she had woken up in the hospital, alone and confused.
<"Got you a present...Superstars of the Superbowls">
Oh what the hell, she thought to herself. She slipped the tape
into the VCR and curled back up on the couch. It began to start with
one member of the Dallas Cowboys making a pass when it stopped. She
sat up confused and reached for the remote when something, more like
someone, apeared on the screen and she stopped herself. There sat an
unshaven, horrible looking Mulder. He was wearing an old grey
sweatshirt and there were circles around his eyes. It was in his
apartment, for what she could tell, and it looked as though he taped
it himself. Then he bean.
"Scully, right now you're at the hospital and you just arrived
there day ago. I'm making this for you because, if you do wake up and
I give this to you, I'm guessing there is only a 2% chance that you'll
even keep this thing..." he smiled a little, but it soon faded. His
voice trailed off for a second and her mouth hung open in surprise and
confusion.
"I really need you to fight this thing, because, no matter
what, I will not let them get away with what they've done to
you. Never. I can't live without you, Scully, and I really want you to
know this. Over these past two years, you've become closer to me than
you will ever know. From the instant you entered my office on the day
you were assigned to the X-Files, I knew you were the one, Scully. The
one who would help keep me grounded, help me stay in line and,...help
me find Samantha...You were,...are the only one I can trust." he ended
with a low whisper. She was completely stunned.
"What I'm really trying to say is that you affected me not
only professionaly, but also personally. You have been the most
important thing in my life since Samantha, and if you...if you left,
there would be no way in hell I could handle this." he was so helpless
and tired and Scully just wished she could just go comfort him right
there and then.
"I guess I'm trying to say that...I fell in love with you,
Dana, on that day, and I have been ever since. I know it's stupid to
be telling this to a stupid machine, but the way I figure it, fate
will decide. It's fate if you keep this tape, it's fate if you watch
this tape, it's fate if...if you decide you feel the same way. But,
it's also you're decision. You can choose to ignore this and I'll
never know if you saw this or not." he rubbed his forehead with his
fingers softly. She was completely and totally numb. Her partner, her
best-friend had confessed that he loved her. She sat blankly not
knowing what to think or do.
"I'll put my fate,...'our' fate in your hands." he finished
and with a click, come football team she didn't recognise was
huddling. She swiftly grabbed the remote and flicked the TV off and
suddenly jumped off the couch, dropping the afgan and Quequag, who had
later joined her. She raced over to the VCR, removed the tap and
slipped it into her bag. She then proceeded to the door and put on
some shoes and grabbed her coat. Once this task was finished she was
out the door and into her car, heading to the one place she could find
answers.
On the way over she could hardly concentrate on traffic.
Oh, shut-up!
Well, mabey...But, what about bureau policies? You know they'd
nev-
No...
But-
I, well-
YES! I love him, okay? I have since we first met!
But, what if he doesn't feel the same way anymore?
She pulled up to the curb of his apartment and looked at
the building. The window to his apartment was dark, giving off the
impresion that no one was home.
What if he's not-
She walked up the steps to the building and let herself in
with the key he had given her. She then proceeded to his
apartment. She hesitated and her common sense screamed at her to turn
away, but instead she knocked on the door. In side she could hear one
pair of feet walking towards the door. Her heart began to beat
faster. He swung open the door and shaded his eyes from the hallway's
light.
"Scully? What are you doing here?" he asked once his eyes were
able to focus on the figure ahead of him.
"We, um, need to talk." she croaked. She had tried her hardest
to be confident but was failing miserably.
"Is something wrong? Are you okay?" he was deeply concerned as
he ushered her into the apartment. She stiffened when she felt his
hand on her back leading her to the so-called living room. He sat on
one end of the couch and she sat on the other.
"I'm fine, well, no I'm not. Mulder, why didn't you tell me?!"
she cried hurt and fear trembling in her voice. Her emotions were
exploding inside.
"What?" he was confused. Could she mean what he thought?
She reached into her bag and pulled out
the video. He stared at the tape and then, silently, dragged his eyes
to the ground.
"Mulder?" she was looking at him quietly. He looked up at her
with his deep hazel eyes and she nearly cried.
"I was,...I was scared that you would reject me, or that you
would get scared and transfer out of here, away from me." he murmured
under his breath.
"Mulder, I would never leave you." she whispered in response.
"I love you." she whispered under her breath. Hi gaze tilted up and he
looked at her. He smiled and sat up. He then took her face in his
hands and she got nervous. "I mean I thought you-" she began. He put
one finger to her lips and stopped her.
"Shhh." he whispered and he moved forward. He kissed her
softly and then broke the connection. He then wrapped his arms around
her and pulled her close. Together the lay still.
"What about the-" she began again, getting all nervous.
"We'll worry about that later. Now, sleep." he told her in a
gentle voice and she lay her head against his chest and quickly fell
asleep. He, on the other hand, was wide awake. "I love you, Scully."
he whispered and then fell asleep also. Not knowing that his
nightmares would plague him no more.
The end.
I am an anti-relationshipper for the show, but I have had this
one in my head for a while now and I just had to get this down. I hope
I did this right, because I've been quite confused to how this
works. Any problems e-mail me. Please excuse the spelling
